The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has sent a letter to its affiliates, including ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities), JUSUN (Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria), and others, informing them of an upcoming nationwide strike. The letter, signed by the NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, conveyed the decision made during the National Executive Council meeting held on June 2, 2023.

The NLC expressed its concerns over the fraudulent increase in fuel prices across the thirty-six states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. As a result, the Congress decided to embark on a nationwide action and service withdrawal starting from Wednesday, June 7, 2023. They called on all national leadership to mobilize their members and ensure full compliance with the directives. Both public and private sectors are expected to fully withdraw their services.

The NLC emphasized that the presidents and general secretaries of the respective unions should actively participate in implementing the decisions of the National Executive Council.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu, during his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square in Abuja, had declared an end to the era of subsidy payments on fuel, as reported
