The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have arrested a suspect for rape in Abuja.
This is contained in a statement issued by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja.
She said the personnel, while on routine patrol around Airport Bridge Taxi Park, observed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows wound up.
”However, the vehicle was shaking. The officers, suspecting foul play, approached the vehicle, and opened it, only to see one Zayyanu Halilu raping a twelve-year-old.
”Following the discovery, the suspect was promptly arrested, and the victim was rescued. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had, on several occasions, lured and sexually abused the underaged victim in the said vehicle parked at the same location, with threats to “deal with her” if she reveals the abuse to anyone. Medical examination also revealed that the victim is about three months pregnant as a result of the abuse.
”The victim is currently receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in Police custody, and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
”The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi PhD., FCAI, urges parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of their wards at all times.
