The Obidient Movement has warned the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to stay clear of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The warning follows Wike’s declaration on Monday that he would serve as field commander for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State.
In a statement by its Media and Communications Directorate, the group said it is disturbed by Wike’s claim and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a free and fair poll.
”Coordinating a political campaign does not confer ownership of the electorate, control over voters, or authority over the electoral process,” the movement said.
It stressed that while politicians are free to campaign, they have no power to decide election outcomes before ballots are cast.
The group said the people of Rivers State and the FCT retain the constitutional right to choose their leaders and that 2027 must be decided by voters, not political office holders.
It challenged Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win support through performance and ideas, not influence over the electoral system.
The movement urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, monitor the polls, and report any malpractice, while calling on INEC and security agencies to enforce electoral laws impartially, regardless of status.
