The Rivers State Government has announced plans to commission 10 major development projects across the state from August 17 to August 28, 2026, as part of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration’s drive to accelerate grassroots development and improve public infrastructure.

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, disclosed this on Friday during a media briefing in Port Harcourt. He said the projects span key sectors, including roads, bridges, healthcare, education, transportation and other critical public infrastructure.

Wokoma, who spoke in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, said the projects were designed to address pressing developmental needs and improve the quality of life of residents across the state.

The commissioning programme will commence on August 17 with the Buguma-Degema-Abonnema Road, which links communities across Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas.

The Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche LGA will be commissioned on August 18, followed by the Entrepreneurship Centre/Engineering Faculty Building of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic on August 19.

On August 20, Governor Fubara is expected to commission the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Dual Carriageway, which passes through Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas. The Omoku Zonal Hospital in ONELGA is scheduled for commissioning on August 21.

The exercise will resume on August 24 with the commissioning of the Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre LGA.

On August 25, the focus will shift to Port Harcourt Local Government Area for the commissioning of the newly constructed runway at the Air Force Base, Rumuola.

The Agba Ndele Road and Bridge in Emohua LGA will be commissioned on August 26, while two major healthcare facilities in Obio/Akpor—the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and the New General Hospital, Rumuigbo—are scheduled for commissioning on August 27.

The programme will climax on August 28 with the commissioning of Bonny National Grammar School in Bonny LGA.

According to the SSG, the projects demonstrate the administration’s determination to ensure that government policies and programmes produce visible and measurable benefits for citizens across the state’s 23 local government areas.

He described the projects as concrete evidence of Governor Fubara’s commitment to transforming communities, expanding infrastructure and strengthening public services.

«“These projects scheduled for commissioning are tangible evidence of His Excellency’s unwavering dedication to transform our communities and address the developmental needs of our people,” Wokoma said.»

The SSG also commended government officials, contractors, host communities and other stakeholders for their contributions to the successful completion of the projects.

He called on residents of Rivers State to participate actively in the commissioning activities and continue to support efforts aimed at promoting peace, development, progress and prosperity across the state.

«“We invite all Rivers people to join in celebrating these milestones and to continue supporting the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as it advances peace, development, progress, and prosperity,” he added.»
