    Plateau Police Command arrests two gun runners in Jos

    ‎The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with illegal possession and trafficking of firearms.

    ‎The Command spokesman, AP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Jos.

    ‎He disclosed that the operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) attached to the Command in collaboration with officers from Bukuru Division, arrested one Yakubu Danladi Pam, aged 40 years, of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, at Miyango-Gyel, behind Building Materials, Jos, following credible intelligence linking him to a case of illegal possession of firearms.

    ‎During an interview, the suspect confessed to being in possession of a locally fabricated firearm, which he claimed he acquired for personal protection against attacks.

    ‎He further disclosed that the firearm was purchased from one Abdulsalam Mohammed Hassan, a 19 year old male from Kadunu, Mangu Local Government Area. One locally fabricated AK-47 rifle was recovered in his possession.

    ‎Following further investigation, our detectives traced and arrested the said Abdulsalam Mohammed Hassan, who confessed to selling the firearm to Yakubu Danladi Pam, adding that he operates as a middleman who receives firearms from unknown sources and supplies them to interested buyers in exchange for money.

    ‎One Type O6 riffle with two magazines and 29 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.

    ‎The case are currently under investigation at the State CID with a view to unravel the source of the firearms and identify other possible suspects connected to the crime.

    ‎The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, psc(++), FCAI, MSPSP, uses this opportunity to warn members of the public against the illegal possession, sale, and use of firearms, stressing that such acts pose serious threats to public safety and security.

    ‎The Command therefore remains committed to the protection of lives and properties of Plateau residents, as well as sustaining its efforts in dismantling criminal networks to ensure the safety of residents across the State.
