President Bola Tinubu has urged the residents of Karu and its environs to safeguard the infrastructure and installations in their visinity against vandalism and illegal connections.
Tinubu gave the charge on Monday during the commissioning of the water supply network project along Karu‑Karshi Road.
Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, said that the initiative was a fulfilment of the Renewed Hope Agenda, and a demonstration that his administration “delivers.”
“It is with a deep sense of fulfilment and gratitude to Almighty God that I stand before you today to commission the water supply network to Karu and its environs.
“We are here not just to cut a ribbon, but to breathe life into a fundamental human right that has eluded this bustling community for far too long.
”We moved quickly when the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, presented the Karu proposal. We did not hesitate. We knew that water is life, and denying our people clean water is denying them health, dignity, and economic progress.
“When we launched the Renewed Hope Agenda, we made a sacred covenant with the Nigerian people. We promised a government that listens, a government that plans, and crucially — a government that delivers.
“This infrastructure belongs to you. It was built with your commonwealth and designed for your well‑being. I, therefore, urge you to safeguard these installations against vandalism and illegal connections.
“Our commitment to urban renewal and rural integration is absolute. The wealth of this nation will trickle down to the people who need it most,” he said.
In his welcome address, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, noted that the projects being commissioned across Abuja would not have been possible without Tinubu’s support.
“Mr President, you will recall that last year when you were having the second year anniversary and commissioning of Abuja Greater Water Supply, you did say that we should move from the city to the Satellite Town, and in the budget of 2025 under the National Budget, you included water supply to the Satellite Towns in AMAC, Karu, and it’s neighbouring communities, and also in Bwari. So, you provided water for two area councils.
“Mr President because you directed the full and early release of what was provided in the national budget, today, less than one year you have come back to commission the provision of water in Karu and its neighbouring communities.
“But for your support, it won’t have been possible, in just one year, this contract was awarded like the ES has said, it was awarded in August last year and we are in June commissioning it fully which is less than one year. On July 14, we will also commission the one in Bwari Area Council.
“Like you have said, it’s not only providing infrastructure in the city, it’s not only providing roads in the satellite towns but that which is very fundamental which is water must also be given to the people.
“I’m sure that the community would be happy and smiling that to the glory of God the Renewed Hope Agenda is working and people can see it,” Wike said.
Daily NewsCraft reports that residents in the Karu axis have long relied on boreholes and water vendors, with campaigners and community leaders frequently calling for expanded municipal supply.
The new network is expected to reduce dependence on unsafe sources, and ease water costs for households and businesses in the fast‑growing satellite town.
The event, which was billed to start by 12 noon, started by 5:20, because Shettima had earlier gone to Nasarawa State for another national assignment.
