    Kogi police command trains 565 constables in weapon handling, marksmanship

    The Kogi State Police Command said has successfully conducted a comprehensive training programme on Weapon Handling and Marksmanship for a total of Five Hundred and Sixty-Five (565) Constables .

     

    This the command said was part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism, and service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.

     

    A statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat stated that “The training, which commenced on 13th April, 2026 and lasted two months, was held in line with the strategic vision and initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at strengthening the capacity of Police personnel to effectively address contemporary security challenges and improve public safety.

     

    Speaking during the Passing-Out Parade held at the Command Headquarters, Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP NAZIRU BELLO KANKAROFI commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and commitment throughout the training period.

     

    The Commissioner of Police stated that the programme was designed to equip the officers with the requisite knowledge and practical skills in the safe handling, maintenance, and effective use of firearms, while also instilling the principles of professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

     

    He noted that the Nigeria Police Force must continue to leverage the strength, energy, and potential of its young officers through continuous capacity-building initiatives to ensure a more efficient and responsive policing system.

     

    The CP charged the graduating Constables to remain disciplined and make judicious use of the knowledge acquired, emphasizing that firearms entrusted to personnel are meant solely for the protection of lives and property and must be handled with utmost responsibility and professionalism.

     

    He further appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering commitment to personnel development and operational excellence, as well as the instructors and facilitators whose efforts contributed to the successful execution of the programme.

     

    “The Kogi State Police Command remains committed to improving the competence of its personnel through regular training and retraining programmes in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police for a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly Police Force.” He added.
