Victor Moses Stranded In Dubai As Nigeria Begins Evacuation Of Citizens

    Published on

Former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses may soon see an end to his unexpected stay in Dubai after the Nigerian government began evacuating citizens caught up in the growing tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Victor Moses, 35, has been unable to leave Dubai after the conflict disrupted air travel across parts of the Middle East, delaying his return to Kazakhstan to link up with his new club FC Kaisar.

The Kazakhstan Premier League side confirmed that Moses and fellow Nigerian forward Imoh Ezekiel both missed their season opener against FK Zhenys on March 8 due to the travel chaos.

Kaisar head coach Andrey Ferapontov said the club is still waiting for the pair to arrive.

“Moses can’t fly out of Dubai due to the political situation. We’re waiting for him. When they rejoin, we’ll have a full squad,” Ferapontov said.

Signs of relief may be emerging. The Nigerian Embassy in Iran has already evacuated willing Nigerians through the Armenian border as authorities work to assist citizens trapped in the region, according to Punch.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the conflict so far. She added that a federal government emergency team remains on standby to begin wider evacuations once regional airspace reopens.

“Luckily, a flight came in from the UAE to Lagos two days ago, just before another strike and closure of the airspace. Once the airspace opens, the multi-agency federal government team on crises and evacuation are on standby,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has restarted limited international departures from Doha, including flights to Nairobi, with additional routes to Cairo, London and Istanbul expected to follow.

Naija News reports that Victor Moses joined Kaisar in January on a one-year deal after leaving Luton Town.

The former Chelsea FC winger won the Premier League title during the 2016/17 season and earned 38 caps for their, scoring 12 goals and playing a major role in the country’s victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
