The Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has praised the management and staff of three key electricity sector agencies — the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company NDPHC, and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC for recent milestones that he said reflect a growing culture of professionalism and proactive service delivery within Nigeria’s power sector.
In a statement issued to the media, Tegbe specifically highlighted TCN’s successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, describing it as a development that would significantly expand transmission capacity across the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister also commended the swift collaboration between TCN and AEDC following the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which had disrupted electricity supply to parts of the nation’s capital. According to him, both organisations mobilised technical resources and worked round the clock to fully restore supply within 24 hours — an outcome he described as a commendable demonstration of inter-agency synergy and citizen-centred service delivery.
“This is excellent, proactive, citizen-centred service delivery championed by the Ministry of Power,” Tegbe said.
Equally significant was the Minister’s recognition of NDPHC’s revival of the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, a critical national asset that had remained shut down for three years since 2023. Developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) initiative, the plant is now positioned to dispatch up to 375 megawatts to the national grid — a development the Minister said would provide a substantial boost to electricity supply across the South-East region while strengthening overall grid stability.
Tegbe credited NDPHC’s Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, and her team for steering the successful revival of the long-dormant facility.
Beyond the commendations, the Minister used the occasion to signal the tone of his leadership, assuring agencies and staff across the sector that excellence and productivity would be acknowledged and rewarded.
“Under my leadership, productivity and excellence will be acknowledged and rewarded,” he said, urging all sector players to remain focused, innovative, and relentless in the collective mission to deliver reliable electricity to Nigerian homes, businesses, and industries.
