A member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Kwande/Ushongo Constituency under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Anyor Mato, has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his swift response following the recent killing of natives by suspected bandits in the state.
Speaking with New National Star on Monday in Makurdi, the state capital, Mato expressed satisfaction with the governor’s prompt intervention and measures taken in response to the tragic incident, where more than 37 people were reportedly killed.
The lawmaker described the barbaric attack on innocent residents as unfortunate and unacceptable, noting that the loss of lives had deeply affected the affected communities.
Mato further disclosed that in recent times, over 70 natives had been reportedly killed in separate attacks across communities including Mbaav and other surrounding areas.
He condemned the persistent attacks and killings in various communities and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the violence and restore peace in the affected areas.
The legislator also urged the Federal Government to strengthen its security response to address the prolonged attacks that have resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.
He advised those responsible for the violence to lay down their arms and resolve their differences peacefully for the sake of unity and development in the state.
According to him, the continuous clashes are disturbing and have hindered progress in the affected communities.
Mato therefore called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators to ensure that justice is served.
