No fewer than 100 people in Lagos state have been trained by a group of healthcare providers with expertise on reducing death from cardiac arrests.

A medical outfit, RNZ Global, made up of experts in global medical best practices, had embarked on a broad-based training and awareness for residents of Carlton Gate Estate, Lekki on the efficiency of “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator ( AED)”.

The residents were educated on effective usage of CPR, administration of hands-only CPR compressions and practical demonstration on how to use an AED machine.

Addressing the participants, Mrs Patricia Sulaiman, Co-founder/ Director of RNZ Global, facilitator of the medical outreach said: “The event was designed to raise awareness on the usefulness of CPR and AED among the residents of the Estate.”

The American Heart Association Instructor added: “The modest gesture was part of the corporate social responsibility of RNZ Global. Hopefully, the participants would share the knowledge they have acquired from the training with neighbours and Nigerians.”

According to her, “CPR can drastically increase the chances of survival following a cardiac arrest with rapid chest compressions mimicking the heartbeat to encourage blood flow to vital organs.”

Mrs Sulaiman stressed that, if AED is used as prescribed, “it will check the heart’s rhythm and deliver a life-saving shock to restore a normal heart rhythm.”

Appraising the training, Mrs Ronke Banjo, President of the Estate’s Residents, testified that Prof. and Mrs Wale Sulaiman “deployed CPR in saving the life of a young man in the Estate in his efforts to rescue a neighbour from fire accident which informed the free training.”

A beneficiary, Mr Joe Onuboya, said: “The training had adequately equipped him on how to use CPR and AED to rescue victims of sudden collapse.”
