The Benue State Government, through the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), has opened a bread factory in Gboko, saying that the investment is one of projects to industrialise the state.

Speaking of the factory, the Group Managing Director (GMD), Asemakaha, said that it is very critical and necessary, owing to its population and industrious nature of the area.

“We’re optimistic about the market boom of our products. This factory is the third bakery we have opened so far. Our aim is to turn the state which is adjudged as a consumption-based economy into a manufacturing powerhouse. The bakery is a giant step in that direction,”  he said, adding that the fourth will come up at Otukpo in Benue South Senatorial District very soon.

He said they will continue to roll out projects in construction, manufacturing, and other sectors to ensure that all 23 local government areas (LGAs) feel the positive economic impact of the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration.

He commended Alia for providing support and visionary leadership that has made the project and many others a reality.

“To the people of Gboko, this bakery is yours. We urge you to own it, protect it, and patronise it. Let the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread be the smell of progress and prosperity for this great community,” he said.

In her remarks, Chief Elizabeth Shuluwa, Board Chairman, BIPC, said the company was only trying to stabilise prices of basic commodities for the good of the people.

She said the government was establishing the cottage industries to further create an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, adding that the new board will continue to support the management to succeed adding that the people should expect more from the company.

Earlier, Mrs Theresa Abeda, the Deputy Head, Business Development Strategy, said one loaf of bread is sold at N1,100 at the factory adding that retailers are expected to sell not above N1,300 per loaf.

Also, Alumo Orpin, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, said the ministry will continue to work behind the scenes to ensure that the company delivers on its mandate.

Orpin said the people should patronise the bread as it was not only fresh but produced at the highest quality.

Barr. Terna Ioryoosu, the Company Secretary, in his vote of thanks, urged the youths to protect the factory jealously adding that it will not only provide bread but jobs for them.

The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, represented by Tor Jemgbagh, HRH Chief Afatyo Ajoko, inaugurated the bakery.
