President Bola Tinubu has called for greater support and investment in Nigeria’s creative sector, describing it as a largely untapped goldmine for jobs, innovation, and long-term revenue.

Represented by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, the president spoke at a workshop organised by the Afronigeria Initiative to mark the upcoming World Tourism Day under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Musawa described the initiative as a crucial platform to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and empower creatives to express themselves authentically.

“The creative economy is central to our national development goals,” she said, noting that the federal government has injected ₦1.5 billion into the Nigerian film industry through the ₦5 billion Creative Fund.

The sector is projected to create 2.7 million jobs within four to five years.

Themed events such as the Afronigerian Fashion and Style Conference, Afronigerian Walk of Fame Awards, and the Face of Afronigerian Pageant are being promoted as opportunities to boost tourism and position Nigeria as a creative powerhouse on the global stage.
