Former Jigawa State governor and founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has declared his support for the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while firmly maintaining his loyalty to the PDP.
Lamido would appear to have learnt from the play book of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is a “committed” PDP chieftain but wines and dines with the APC which has rewarded the fraternity with a juicy ministerial portfolio.
Speaking at an empowerment programme organised by Senator Mustapha Khabeeb (PDP, Jigawa South West) in Dutse, Lamido clarified his stance, noting that although he backs the unification of opposition parties under the ADC’s leadership, he has no intention of leaving the PDP.
“Yes, I support the coming together of the opposition under the ADC, but let it be known I will never leave the PDP.
“I built this house with my sweat and soul. My role now is to offer guidance and ensure Nigeria finds her way back,” he told a crowd of supporters.
Lamido criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) governments at both state and federal levels, accusing them of betraying the people’s trust and failing in governance.
He praised the PDP’s federal lawmakers from Jigawa State, stating they were working for the people, unlike their APC counterparts whom he accused of selfishness.
“The three PDP federal lawmakers from Jigawa are serving the people.
“APC lawmakers? They’re serving only themselves. Let the people judge,” he said.
As a symbolic show of unity among opposition forces, Lamido introduced the ADC Chairman in Jigawa State, Kabiru Hussaini, to the PDP audience—signaling his support for collaboration aimed at rebuilding the country.
Senator Mustapha Khabeeb echoed Lamido’s views, reflecting on the PDP’s record of development under Lamido’s leadership.
“From 1999 to 2015, and especially under Sule Lamido, Jigawa knew what development looked like — roads, schools, hospitals, real change. What do we have now? APC has brought nothing but hunger and hopelessness,” he said.
Khabeeb also showcased his own commitment to the PDP’s legacy through various empowerment programmes aimed at improving the lives of constituents.
