Mary Remmy Njoku raises alarm over ineffective Nigerian drugs

    Published on

Actress and ROK Studios boss, Mary Remmy Njoku, is calling out Nigeria’s pharmaceutical system after a recent experience with medication left her both frustrated and concerned for public health.

In a post shared on her Instagram page, the filmmaker revealed she suffered a bout of food poisoning while on set and sent a staff member to buy Imodium — a well-known drug used to treat diarrhea — from one of Nigeria’s biggest pharmacy chains.

Despite taking the medication consistently for three days, she said her symptoms didn’t improve. Shockingly, it only took one dose of the same Imodium — but this time from abroad — to calm her stomach within five minutes.

“Then my husband returned from a trip and gave me a tiny tablet of the same Imodium. This time from abroad. I took it, and within five minutes, my stomach calmed down.”

Mary, visibly disturbed by the difference in effectiveness, questioned the quality of drugs being sold to Nigerians and tagged NAFDAC (Nigeria’s food and drug regulatory agency) to look into the matter urgently. “Imagine taking medication, believing you’ll get better. And then dying from something completely treatable, simply because the drugs didn’t work. Ha!!! NAFDAC HELP!!!”

She didn’t stop there. In bold words, the mother of three warned: “Nigerian medications are losing their potency!”
