In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal factory producing adulterated alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.

According to a statement from the agency, operatives arrested one Madu Abuchi Simon, who was caught in the act of replicating several top-shelf liquor brands, including Hennessy, William Lawson, Baileys, Martell, St. Remy, and Jameson.

During the raid, officials discovered a trove of alarming items: expired Amarula cream liqueur, empty branded bottles and cartons, product labels, rudimentary production tools like stoves and buckets, and a strange purple chemical suspected to be used for bottle recycling.

Simon reportedly attempted to flee but was apprehended at the scene.

Over 100 cartons of fake liquor were seized, with a street value estimated at more than N114 million. The makeshift facility has since been sealed off, and investigations are ongoing.

NAFDAC is urging consumers to be vigilant and purchase alcoholic products only from reputable sources. They also encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest NAFDAC office.
