FG Seeks Actions To Attain 30,000MW Electricity By 2030

The Federal Government is seeking actions and enabling the environment to realise the Electricity Vision (EV) 30:30:30 of achieving 30,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2030 with renewable energy contributing 30 per cent to the mix.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu said this on Thursday while declaring open the third edition of the civil society roundtable discussion with stakeholders in the power sector, organised by Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, with the theme, ‘Boosting Nigeria’s Power Sector Performance for Overall Socio-Economic Development of the Nation’.

Aliyu represented by the Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department at the ministry, Titilayo Agbeyan, said, “Given Nigeria’s enormous energy resources, its huge human capital and population demography, it is obvious that creating an enabling environment is a critical component in the realisation of the EV 30:30:30.”

According to Daily Trust report, the Minister said his ministry would focus more on creating the right enabling environment for private investment.

President of CSGGG, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic Ogakwu, lamented that “With an investment of over 16billion dollars by the previous administration, today, Nigeria still generate a paltry 5,000MW as against our current capacity of over 11,000MW of electricity for millions of Nigerian consumers.”

Ogakwu said the roundtable discussion was organised to enable those saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that Nigerians enjoy a stable supply of electricity to give account of their stewardship.
