Avoid situations where men will approach you Tinubu’s wife tells women

Oluremi Tinubu’s wife, the president of Niger, has responded to the recent Senate proceedings.

She asserts that women shouldn’t place themselves in circumstances where males would talk to them anyway and that the Nigerian Senate is still a “matured” institution that deserves respect.

According to a statement sent by her media assistant, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady made this claim during a Thursday interview with reporters at the State House in Abuja.

Nigerians were curious about Remi’s position on the sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the consequent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan after her twelve years in the Senate.

Speaking ahead of International Women’s Day, the former member insisted that MPs are “doing what is needful” and rejected worries about how the Senate is addressing issues.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu urged Nigerian women to take the lead and stated that the chamber should be a place of honor rather than controversy.

You could ask, “Why am I not taking a position given what is happening in the Senate?” she replied. Since that’s what it is, I think the Senate is acting appropriately.

It is an interior space and a sophisticated chamber. It’s a mature chamber that has to be respected. Being there by yourself is an honor for you.

“I’ve been there for 12 years, even when I was younger, and I’m still trying to look young, but people always compliment you. Women, just get up and don’t put yourself in a position where men will talk to you anyway.”

The Senate on Thursday suspended Senator Natasha for six months for violating the Red Chambers’ regulations after she argued with Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment.
