Nigeria’s ruling elite is transforming government into a reality television program Obi Peter

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the general elections of 2023, has criticized Nigeria’s political elite for putting petty matters ahead of the nation’s urgent problems.

In a message published on his X handle, Obi emphasized that Nigeria is dealing with some of its most severe socioeconomic problems and called the current political climate an unpleasant display.

He asserts that immediate action is needed to address the growing rates of hunger, poverty, insecurity, and out-of-school children.

The fact that Nigeria’s political leadership is quickly turning into a humiliating show is quite concerning.

Our country is currently seeing the highest rates of both perceived and real poverty, rising infant mortality, millions of out-of-school children, and one of the world’s most unstable and hungry situations.

“Nigeria cannot afford to have a reality TV-style government while millions endure prolonged suffering.” It’s time for leadership that is based on integrity, skill, ability, constancy, empathy, and urgency—leadership that puts an emphasis on poverty reduction, healthcare, and education,” he tweeted.

The former governor of Anambra State claimed that disputes over claims of sexual harassment in the National Assembly, budget padding, and court rulings that might topple state governments instead dominate the national conversation.

Obi reaffirmed the need for politicians to refrain from switching to parties where they think it would be easy to rig their way into power, calling this conduct a careless disregard for serious governance.
