Nigeria’s Digital Revolution Gains Momentum as NITDA Empowers Youths

Abuja, Nigeria – In a bid to establish Nigeria as a globally renowned center and hub of technology and innovation, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is driving the country’s digital transformation with a focus on youth empowerment and global competitiveness.

According to NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the agency’s initiatives aim to bridge the digital divide and equip Nigerians with critical digital skills. “We are committed to making Nigeria a hub for technological innovation and a leader in the global digital landscape,” Abdullahi said.

NITDA has launched several initiatives to achieve this goal, including digital literacy programs integrated into school curricula in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education. The agency is also working with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to launch a comprehensive digital literacy initiative, empowering the next generation to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Strategic partnerships with organizations like the World Bank, CISCO, TikTok, the US Consulate, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) are also underway to foster a digitally literate workforce.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have commended NITDA’s efforts, citing improved economic productivity and global competitiveness. “NITDA’s initiatives will improve economic productivity, increase skills and knowledge, and enhance employability, ultimately driving Nigeria’s economic growth and global competitiveness,” said Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, Executive Secretary of the Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI).

NITDA aims to achieve 70% digital literacy by 2027, with expected outcomes including improved economic productivity, increased skills and knowledge, enhanced employability, and reduced dependency ratios.

As Nigeria’s digital revolution gains momentum, the country is poised to become a hub for technological innovation and a leader in the global digital landscape
