In a pivotal move announced during the 2024 JAMB policy meeting, Education Minister Professor Tahir Mamman unveiled sweeping changes to Nigeria’s educational landscape. Effective immediately, the Federal Government has mandated that tertiary institutions will no longer admit candidates under the age of 18.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education has outlined plans to introduce a comprehensive new curriculum for secondary schools starting September 2024. This curriculum emphasizes practical skills acquisition aimed at facilitating immediate employment upon graduation.

Furthermore, Prof. Oloyede underscored the importance of adherence to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), cautioning against unauthorized admissions outside the system. Since its inception in 2017, CAPS has revolutionized the admission process by centralizing and automating interactions between candidates and their chosen institutions.

These reforms signify a concerted effort by the Ministry to enhance educational standards and ensure alignment with contemporary global practices within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
