NNPP Secretary Condemns Alleged INEC Approval of Kwankwaso’s Party Takeover

The National Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, has vehemently dismissed recent claims about the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) approving changes to the party’s logo, flag, and constitution. Oginni described these reports, allegedly orchestrated by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasia Movement, as futile attempts to take over the NNPP.

Oginni stated that the plot to hijack the NNPP by Kwankwaso has been thoroughly exposed. He emphasized the party’s commitment to the rule of law, underscoring its foundation 22 years ago by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam and its belief in the judiciary’s integrity.

He condemned the actions of INEC under the leadership of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, criticizing the commission’s purported approval of a faction masquerading as the NNPP. Oginni challenged Prof. Yakubu and Kwankwaso to establish a new political party under their Kwankwasia name and logo instead of infringing on the NNPP’s intellectual property.

“We are happy to tell all Nigerians that the New Nigeria People’s Party is a law-abiding political party, founded 22 years ago by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam,” Oginni stated. He further stressed that the party leadership has contested the illegal convention where the unauthorized changes were proposed, expressing strong confidence that the judiciary will address the issue swiftly and impartially.

Oginni denounced INEC’s actions as an act of impunity, declaring, “The approval given by INEC to a group of Kwankwasia parading itself as NNPP is unacceptable. We challenge Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu and Kwankwaso to register another political party with their Kwankwasia name and logo with red colors, rather than stealing the intellectual property of the NNPP.”

He called on all NNPP members, both within Nigeria and abroad, along with supporters of democracy, to remain calm in the face of these provocations, expressing confidence that the judiciary would resolve the matter justly.
