Mrs. Monisola Susan Ogundare, the Chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Ekiti State, is facing accusations of financial impropriety and misappropriation of funds totaling millions of naira. A group identified as Team Independent Investigation has submitted a petition to Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the National President of POWA, urging a thorough inquiry into the alleged misconduct.
The insiders allege that Mrs. Ogundare has engaged in dubious activities, including stripping POWA of its assets for personal gains. The petition highlights improper allocation of resources meant for POWA’s enhancement and the contravention of association principles and regulations.
Among the specific allegations, Mrs. Ogundare is accused of diverting funds intended for POWA into her personal account and selling a piece of land designated for a carwash. The insiders claim that she sold each parcel of land at a rate of five hundred and fifty thousand naira, accumulating a total of two million seven hundred and seventy-five thousand naira. The funds, originally earmarked for a POWA bus, allegedly ended up in her personal account with no accountability.
Regarding property acquisition in Odo Ado and Ologede, Mrs. Ogundare is accused of acquiring land belonging to POWA members, failing to provide benefits to those who paid for space approval, and converting built shops into her personal properties instead of designating them for POWA in Ekiti State.
The petitioners call for the return of shops reportedly acquired and sold by Mrs. Ogundare and the restitution of funds collected from members and philanthropists. They emphasize the need for a swift and fair resolution, backed by evidence submitted to relevant authorities for potential independent investigation.
Women who reportedly paid money for space allocations corroborate the allegations, stating that Mrs. Ogundare sold allocated spaces without refunding the paid amounts. They express dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency and accountability in the chairperson’s actions.
In response, Mrs. Ogundare denies the allegations and calls for a thorough investigation to establish the truth. She asserts her willingness to cooperate and believes that an inquiry will vindicate her from the accusations, noting that she works under the guidance of executive members.
