Former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, has advocated for the adoption of technology over manpower in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria. Okiro expressed his views during the Old Seminarians Association of Nigeria (OSAN) convention, where he emphasized that criminals have surpassed existing security measures, necessitating a technological upgrade in the nation’s security architecture.

Speaking at the convention, Okiro highlighted the need for the Federal Government to prioritize technological advancements to effectively address the current security challenges. He stressed that relying solely on manpower is inadequate in confronting the increasingly sophisticated tactics employed by criminals.

In his keynote address at the convention, Dr. Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu echoed sentiments of despair and helplessness within Nigeria, emphasizing the urgency of addressing societal problems. While acknowledging the convention’s theme, “Building our Fraternity for Prosperity,” Chukwu called for an extension of this effort to the broader Nigerian society, which he described as facing a state of hopelessness and citizens’ helplessness.

Chukwu urged individuals to contribute by instilling more values in society and serving as positive role models in their respective positions. The call for technological solutions from Okiro aligns with a growing recognition of the need for innovative approaches to counter the evolving tactics of criminals in the country.
