    Cuba Collaborates with FCTA to Combat Malaria

    The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Miriam Palmero, has expressed Cuba’s willingness to collaborate with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in eradicating malaria in Abuja. During her visit to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the ambassador emphasized the importance of the partnership, considering Abuja’s status as the host to numerous foreign embassies. Cuba, through its pharmaceutical company Labiofam, has developed a single anti-malaria dose with potential applications for other diseases. The ambassador highlighted the existing agreement signed in 2016 between Nigeria and Labiofam to combat malaria. Additionally, Cuba offered collaboration in agriculture and tourism to foster job creation. Ambassador Palmero invited Minister Wike to visit Cuba and explore potential areas of collaboration, showcasing achievements in agriculture, health, and tourism. Minister Wike affirmed the FCT Administration’s readiness for collaboration, directing the FCT Health Secretariat to engage with Labiofam for potential partnerships in malaria treatment. He also expressed interest in genuine collaborations for the development of the agriculture sector, emphasizing the importance of effective implementation over mere signing of Memoranda of Understanding.
