The Delta State Government has taken swift action to alleviate the challenges faced by its citizens in the wake of the petrol subsidy removal. Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, announced a series of palliatives aimed at easing the burden on the people.

In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Emu disclosed that the government, under the leadership of Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has commenced the payment of N10,000 to civil servants, along with clearing promotion arrears amounting to over N5 billion. These payments are retroactive to August 2023.

Furthermore, the State Government is in the final stages of planning for the production of fuel and CNG-compatible tricycles (Keke) to be distributed across the three senatorial districts. This initiative aims to reduce transportation costs for the citizens.

Dr. Emu also highlighted ongoing efforts to employ primary school teachers and non-teaching staff in 23 out of the 25 local government areas in the state. This move is expected to provide employment opportunities, reduce dependency, and enhance the quality of education for pupils.

To ensure the effective distribution of these palliatives, the State Subsidy Palliative Committee, along with sub-committees at the local government and ward levels, will oversee the process. These committees will include various stakeholders such as traditional institutions, community representatives, religious organizations, and more.

The Local Government Monitoring Team will consist of House of Assembly members, Commissioners, local council chairmen, traditional rulers, and representatives of various organizations. All these committees will be chaired by trusted individuals to ensure transparency and efficiency.

The State Subsidy Palliative Committee comprises key government officials, labor union representatives, and experts in relevant fields. This multi-faceted approach aims to provide timely support to the people of Delta State during this transitional period.
