The battle for the soul of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has flared once again, with Chief Peter Ameh, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), insisting that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike lacks the moral standing to block Peter Obi’s possible return.
Speaking on Trust TV, Ameh argued that Obi embodies credibility, while Wike represents betrayal and inconsistency.
“Wike once vowed never to be a minister, yet he sits in Tinubu’s cabinet. He called APC a party for sinners, yet he works for it. He swore loyalty to PDP, yet campaigned against it. With such contradictions, how can he dictate who enters or leaves PDP?” Ameh queried.
He warned that without leaders of Obi’s stature, the PDP risks “political suicide” in 2027. Beyond party wrangling, Ameh said the real verdict lies in Nigerians’ daily struggles.
“These by-elections APC flaunts are illusions; governors’ control those. The real verdict is on the streets, hunger, joblessness, frustration. That’s where 2027 will be decided,” he said.
Echoing former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Ameh suggested Tinubu may not even secure third place. “Ask Jonathan in 2015. When the people turn, no state machinery can withstand it,” he warned.
For Ameh, the wildcard is Nigeria’s youth, now the largest voting bloc. “They’ve seen their parents’ futures stolen. They are less willing to sell votes. If they mobilize in 2027, the APC’s comfort zone will collapse,” he said.
He concluded that the 2027 race would be about credibility, not incumbency. “Tinubu stands on quicksand. Obi is courted by all sides because people still trust his word. That contrast shows where Nigeria’s politics is heading,” Ameh said.
