Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unleashed scathing criticism against certain political figures, labeling them as “political vampires” in a recent outburst. In particular, he addressed his severed ties with former Governor Peter Odili and accused a group of Rivers State elders of exploiting the political landscape for their personal gain.
Wike disclosed that his once-amicable relationship with Odili had deteriorated, highlighting a stark contrast to their previous camaraderie. Despite Odili’s previous support during Wike’s tenure as governor, Wike emphasized that their political paths had diverged.
The minister’s remarks, delivered during an interview with journalists from multiple television stations, shed light on his strained relations with key figures within the Rivers State political arena. Notably, Wike targeted former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, along with other prominent leaders whom he accused of lacking integrity.
Addressing his standoff with incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike criticized a faction of PDP leaders in Rivers State, including Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia, and Austin Opara, for allegedly undermining his leadership. He asserted his authority by expelling them from the party, deeming them irrelevant.
Wike’s animosity towards these figures was palpable, as he accused them of switching allegiance to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara, diverting support from him.
Moreover, Wike defended his stance on equitable representation in government, citing examples from other states to justify his demands. He vehemently rejected accusations of overreach, emphasizing the need for fairness and balance in political appointments.
Expressing his readiness to challenge adversaries, Wike stood firm against detractors, proclaiming his resilience in the face of political machinations.
Despite the controversies surrounding his actions and statements, Wike reiterated his commitment to the welfare of Rivers State, urging a focus on substantive issues rather than indulging in political theatrics.
In a display of defiance and assertiveness, Wike challenged Governor Fubara to disclose his administration’s financial obligations, accusing him of wielding undue influence over the state legislature.
With his forceful rhetoric and uncompromising stance, Wike signaled his determination to navigate the turbulent waters of Rivers State politics, undeterred by opposition or personal attacks.
