Why I Am Subsidizing Education for 300 Students in Nasarawa – Architect Ishaya

Architect Ishaya Duba Dodo, a renowned philanthropist from Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has subsidized education for 300 students across Nasarawa North’s three geopolitical zones: Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Local Government Areas.

The initiative, a bursary scheme  woth millions of Naira that concluded at the ERCC headquarters in Akwanga yesterday aims to alleviate the financial burden of education for Christian and Muslim students from underprivileged backgrounds, irrespective of their religious affiliations. Beneficiaries were carefully selected from the poorest families, with the funds covering tuition fees and other essential educational needs.

Speaking about his motivation  in an interview with thenationnewsonline, Ishaya said, “This is a way to support students going back to school to ensure they can cater for their tuition and other needs, especially considering the current economic challenges. Education has the power to transform lives, and I want to give these students the opportunity I once struggled to have.”

Recalling his own struggles as a student, Ishaya shared how financial hardship shaped his determination. “When I was in school, I suffered to pay my fees. Whenever I got money, I managed it wisely and stayed away from bad friends. I believe staying focused and avoiding distractions can lead to great success. The sky will be their limit if they remain determined,” he advised.

Ishaya highlighted financial constraints as one of the major obstacles students face in pursuing education. “One way the devil breaks people is by introducing lack. This bursary is my way of ensuring these young ones stay on track and achieve their dreams,” he explained.

Known for his numerous humanitarian interventions, Ishaya has previously settled medical bills for the less privileged, provided transformers for electricity in underserved communities, and supported various causes. This time, however, he decided to prioritize education.

“This is not the first time I am helping people, but I felt it was time to prioritize education. Students need all the support they can get to succeed,” he noted, urging other well-meaning individuals to emulate his example.

“This is just the beginning. Education is a right, not a privilege, and I will continue to advocate for it. I hope more people will join hands to support the less privileged in our society,” Ishaya concluded.

The bursary scheme has been widely praised by community leaders and beneficiaries. Samson Bala, the Councilor of Ninge Council Ward in Akwanga Local Government Area, commended Ishaya’s foresight and generosity.

“Architect Ishaya Duba Dodo is a rare gem. His support for education shows his commitment to the future of our community. He is a shining example of what true leadership and philanthropy should be,” Bala remarked.

A parent from Wamba Local Government Area, Mrs. Amina Yusuf, expressed her gratitude. “This bursary is a blessing to us. My children can now continue their education without me worrying too much about their fees. May God reward him abundantly,” she said.

Similarly, Peter Musa, a beneficiary and student at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, shared how the bursary has renewed his hope.

“I used to think my education this year was going to be very difficult because of the economic hardship my parents are going through. This support has brought me back on track, and I am determined to make the most of it,” Musa said.
