Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, and Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, paid a visit to the Torankawa village in Kano on Monday in order to provide consolation to the relatives of the sixteen people who were cruelly murdered in Uromi, Edo State.
Key government representatives and local leaders came together for the visit, demonstrating both states’ dedication to bringing justice to the victims.
Through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf conveyed his profound sadness over the tragic event and called for the prompt prosecution of those guilty. He gave the families his word that justice would be delivered and that the government would not back down.
“This visit is about reinforcing our commitment to justice, not just offering condolences. Action is what these victims’ families need, not just words. Until every offender is held accountable, publicly paraded, and brought to justice, we won’t stop,” Yusuf declared.
He also urged the Edo State Government to provide the victims’ families with compensation as soon as possible, emphasizing that the loss of their breadwinners had put many households in a difficult situation.
In his speech, Governor Okpebholo gave the families his word that justice would be served quickly and that security forces were making headway in the inquiry.
“I would like to personally reassure you that we are giving this matter the serious attention it requires. All Nigerians call Edo home, and violence of this nature will not be accepted there,” he declared.
Torankawa community leaders conveyed gratitude for the visit, stating that it had reduced tensions and restored trust in the government’s dedication to their well-being.
His Highness Amb. Muhammad Isa Umar, the Emir of Kano, responded by praising the two governors for acting quickly to address the unfortunate event.
The Kano State Government reiterated its determination to keep an eye on the situation till justice is done.
