‎More than 4,000 applicants have applied for nursing and midwifery positions in Taraba State, with only 550 candidates shortlisted for screening and interviews.

‎The recruitment exercise, being conducted by the Taraba State Health Service Management Board in Jalingo, follows the state government’s approval of 550 vacancies in the health sector.

‎It was gathered that the Board opened an online recruitment portal for qualified nurses and midwives, attracting more than 4,000 applications within a short period, despite the limited number of available positions.

‎The exercise involves professional and competency-based assessments aimed at ensuring that only qualified candidates are selected.

‎Speaking during the screening process, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Garba Danjuma, disclosed that over 4,000 applicants submitted applications through the recruitment portal, far exceeding the state’s approved quota of 550 positions.

‎He assured applicants that only competent and qualified professionals would be recruited to strengthen manpower in the state’s health sector.

‎Taraba State Commissioner for Health, Budiya Buma, reiterated Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to revitalising the health sector and improving healthcare delivery across the state.

‎He also assured applicants that the recruitment process would be transparent, credible and strictly based on merit.

‎The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ebenezer Apake, explained that the screening and interview exercise, which is expected to last between two and three days, is focused primarily on recruiting nurses and midwives.

‎According to him, successful candidates will be recommended for employment, while the Board remains committed to staff welfare, career progression and regular promotions.
