    UI Senate withdraws 226 students over abysmal academic performance

    Reports indicates that the Senate of University of Ibadan has approved the withdrawal of 226 undergraduate students.

    The students were asked to withdraw due to poor academic performance in the 2024/2025 academic session.

    It was gathered that the decision was taken by the apex decision-making in the university at its meeting held on Monday.

    It was learnt that the results of both graduating and non-graduating students were ratified at the meeting.

    The Senate in its decision directed that students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.0 be advised to withdraw from the institution.

    It was learnt that following the approval, the affected students have been denied access to the university’s portal for further registration.

    This implies that the academic programmes of the affected students at the institution have been brought to an end.

    Findings revealed that the affected students cut across various faculties and levels, from 100 to 500 level.

    It was gathered that 79 students of the Faculty of Science were asked to withdraw from the university.

    Faculty of Technology has a total of 45 students that were asked to withdraw, while the Faculty of Agriculture has 35 students.

    College of Medicine has 18 students, while Faculty of Education has 18 students.

    Ten students from the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources were asked to withdraw.

    Our correspondent gathered that Faculty of Arts has nine students, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences has four, Faculty of Law has three, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has two, while Faculty of Environmental Design and Management has three.

    The Director of Public Communication at the university, Mrs Adejoke Akinpelu, when contacted, confirmed the development on Tuesday.

    She said that the students were advised to withdraw due to poor academic performance.

    She maintained that the exercise is a normal academic appraisal process.

    “They were advised to withdraw across the faculties and programmes at all the levels because their CGPA fell below 1 point. It is a normal academic appraisal process,” she said.
