Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have intercepted a large consignment of drugs concealed in the boot of a car during a stop-and-search operation in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
According to a statement by Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the interception took place on October 14, 2025, around Anguwan Malama.
He said the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos) abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting troops. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana.
“The vehicle and exhibits are in military custody for further investigation and will be handed over to the relevant authorities,” Zubairu stated.
The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, affirming the military’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and enhancing security across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
Meanwhile, Operation Safe Corridor has intensified the training of troops on integrating non-kinetic strategies into counterinsurgency operations.
At a workshop held in Jos, the Coordinator, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, said lasting peace requires addressing root causes of insecurity such as ideological indoctrination, poverty, and marginalisation.
“Kinetic means alone cannot bring sustainable peace,” he said. “We must also confront the social and psychological factors that drive people into insurgency.”
The training brought together personnel from various security agencies, aimed at improving synergy and promoting long-term stability in the region.
