Troops of operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have halted a major terrorist movement from Zamfara into Niger State, neutralizing multiple assailants and seizing their weapons and transport.

Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA made the disclosure in a statement adding the interception occurred on July 22, 2025.

He said that a heavily armed terrorist group attempted to cross from the Baban Doka area in Maru Local Government of Zamfara into the Ragada and Warari axis of Rijau LGA, Niger State.

The statement added that acting on precise intelligence, a combined detachment of soldiers from Mariga and Zuru launched a swift and coordinated counterattack near Inana village.

According to field reports, the encounter escalated into a heavy gunfight, during which air support

units from OPFY provided surveillance and targeted airstrikes that proved critical in dislodging the terrorists.

“Several terrorists were neutralized, and numerous motorcycles and communication equipment were recovered,” the statement reads

Among the recovered items were two AK-47 rifles, a magazine containing five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 18 motorcycles likely used for swift movement across rugged terrain.

The army stated that the offensive disrupted the terrorists’ intent to sow chaos in the region and possibly engage in cattle rustling and further violence.

Tragically, the military also confirmed the loss of one soldier who sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation. “Sadly, one brave soldier was fatally injured during the fire fight,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its determination, OPFY vowed to continue its push against terrorist groups in the North West and parts of the North Central zone.

“OPFY remains resolute in its mandate to defeat terrorists and criminal elements operating across the North West and parts of the North Central region. We assure the public of our unwavering commitment to achieving this mandate and urge continued cooperation through the provision of credible information that will support ongoing offensive operations,” he added.
