Nigerian footballers were at the heart of decisive moments across Europe and beyond last weekend, with goals, assists and match-winning cameos shaping results from England to the United States.

At Craven Cottage, Alex Iwobi delivered when it mattered most, scoring in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The midfielder struck before the break, curling a precise effort off the far post after a neat exchange with Harry Wilson. It proved the winner and deepened Spurs’ defensive woes. The goal was his fourth league strike of the season, taking his overall goal involvement to seven alongside three assists.

Iwobi also fashioned four chances, the most by any player on the pitch. He has now scored in consecutive matches following his goal and assist in the previous 3-1 win over Sunderland.

Calvin Bassey played his part in a disciplined defensive display, while Samuel Chukwueze came on late to help see the game out.

At Nottingham Forest, Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi endured another difficult afternoon as Forest slipped to a third straight defeat.

Aina completed 28 of 29 passes, including a flawless 14 of 14 in the opposition half, and delivered three accurate long balls. Awoniyi, still working his way back to full sharpness, came on late and registered one effort without troubling the goalkeeper.

Forest remain 17th, just two points above the drop zone.

In LaLiga, Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams featured as Sevilla clawed back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Real Betis in the Seville derby.

Adams started but could not end his goal drought, while Ejuke added urgency after coming on at half-time with Sevilla trailing. Late strikes from Alexis Sanchez and Isaac Romero rescued a point.

Umar Sadiq started for Valencia in a 1-0 win over Osasuna. Though he did not score, he won a penalty, completed all 11 of his passes and battled through 11 duels in an industrious display.

In Turkey, Victor Osimhen was once again decisive for Galatasaray in a 3-1 win over Alanyaspor.

He provided the assist for his side’s second goal before sealing victory late on after capitalising on a defensive error. The forward now has 10 league goals and four assists, all four assists coming in his last four league outings.

Ibrahim Olawoyin also registered his first assist of the season as Rizespor beat Kasimpasa 3-0.

In Major League Soccer, Hamzat Ojediran struck from distance to help Colorado Rapids to a 2-0 win over Portland Timbers. His powerful low drive from outside the area broke the game open.

Olakunle Olusegun converted from the spot for Pari Nizhny Novgorod in a 2-1 defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia.

In Croatia, Samuel Akere came off the bench to seal Osijek’s 2-0 win over Vukovar 91 with a stoppage-time goal.

Solomon John provided an assist in Mladá Boleslav’s 3-1 victory over Jablonec in Czechia.

Wisdom Osaretin netted an 83rd-minute winner for Mgarr in a 2-1 away triumph over Marsa in Malta.

Chibuike Ohizu struck in the 79th minute to hand Sekhukhune United a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy in South Africa.

Victory Akpe scored a 77th-minute equaliser for Zalaegerszegi in a 1-1 draw with Diósgyőri VTK in Hungary.

In Albania, Harrison Jiakponna found the net late in Laci’s 5-1 win over Lushnja, while Odirah Ntephe scored in the same fixture despite Lushnja’s heavy defeat. Mmesoma Umejiego was on target for Apolonia Fier in a 2-1 loss to Pogradeci.
