Tinubu Holds Meeting with Tajudeen Abass, House of Reps Members at Aso Rock

    Published on

President Bola Tinubu held a private meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and some members of the Green Chamber at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

The discussion took place shortly after the President and the lawmakers observed the Jumat prayer together at the mosque inside the State House.

The meeting was brief and was not included in the President’s official schedule for the day.

Sources at the Villa confirmed to Punch that Abbas arrived with a few lawmakers, including the Chief Whip of the House, Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency in Gombe State under the All Progressives Congress.

However, the details of what was discussed were not made known, as those who spoke said they were not aware of the issues raised during the meeting.

According to one of the officials, the lawmakers followed the President back to his office after the prayers, but no information was available about the purpose of their visit. Another aide noted that the meeting came shortly after a similar visit by senators earlier in the week, but it was not clear if both groups had the same request.

The identities of the other lawmakers who attended the meeting could not be confirmed.

The development comes about two days after the leadership of the Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also met with the President behind closed doors at the Villa.

Reports had indicated that the senators were seeking automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections, but the President did not approve the request and instead maintained that state governors have the final say in selecting party candidates in their states.
