President Bola Tinubu expressed deep sorrow and concern on Tuesday in response to the accidental bombing of Tudun Biri village in Kaduna State by the Nigerian Army. Describing the incident as “very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful,” Tinubu conveyed his condolences to the affected families and the Kaduna State government.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled ‘President Tinubu condoles with Kaduna State government, families of victims over bombing mishap,’ Tinubu expressed indignation and grief over the tragic loss of lives. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in the death of at least 85 villagers and sparked widespread outrage.

Community and religious leaders, labeling the mistaken bombing as “harrowing and painful,” highlighted previous instances of military air raids causing harm to innocent civilians. In response to the crisis, Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe engaged with Islamic clerics to prevent escalation, while Governor Uba Sani ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

Survivors and eyewitnesses reported the burial of approximately 93 bodies by Monday evening. President Tinubu, directing a comprehensive investigation into the incident, urged calm as authorities diligently look into this and similar mishaps that have claimed 386 lives since 2014.

Furthermore, Tinubu called for swift and comprehensive medical attention for surviving victims, expressing prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased. The incident has prompted urgent calls for accountability and measures to prevent future occurrences, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of military operations to ensure civilian safety.
