Tension flared in Barnawa, Kaduna, on Monday evening following a shooting incident that reportedly claimed the life of one person.

Eyewitnesses said security operatives stormed the Barnawa Market area and began firing shots into the air, triggering panic as shoppers and residents fled for safety.

The gunfire erupted near a football field where a group of youths and children were playing. Amid the confusion, one individual was allegedly struck by a bullet and died at the scene.

In response, angry youths took to the streets in protest, blocking the major road in the area and causing a heavy traffic gridlock along the Barnawa axis.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Government and relevant security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident or the reason for the security operation.

Residents have been urged to avoid the area while efforts to restore calm continue.
