The Supreme Court has deferred judgment on the appeal brought forward by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, David Ombugadu, in connection with the 2023 governorship election in Nasarawa State. The appellants aim to overturn the November 23, 2023, ruling of the Court of Appeal, which reversed the initial decision of the election tribunal, resulting in the removal of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Court of Appeal, in its judgment, asserted that the tribunal had relied on legally inadmissible evidence to nullify Sule’s election and proclaim Ombugadu as the victor of the governorship election held on March 18.
During the proceedings on Tuesday, January 16, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, leading a five-member panel at the apex court, announced that judgment would be withheld until a later date. Justice Kekere-Ekun assured that all parties involved would be duly notified when the court is prepared to deliver its final decision on the matter.
