The Edo State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, to shelve the proposed leadership change of the present NLC Exco in Edo State.
The resolution followed a motion raised by the Majority Leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, after reports of a planned inauguration of a caretaker committee in the state.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Ibhamawu said there is currently a harmonious labour force under the leadership of Comrade Bernard Eguakhide, and warned that Ajaero’s action could cause a breach of peace in Edo State.
He stressed that the change of the present Exco should only be done at the end of its tenure to guarantee a peaceful and harmonious working environment.
Other lawmakers supported the motion, stating that the proposed leadership change of the NLC Exco in Edo State should be put on hold in the interest of peace and harmony.
In another development, the lawmakers received a petition from civil society groups in Edo State calling on them to address the return of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and their notorious activities.
The lawmakers condemned the resurgence of CDAs and their activities in the state, warning that such practices would not be tolerated by the government.
The petition was referred to the House Committee on Public Petitions for consideration.
Meanwhile, a bill for a law to establish the Edo State Parks and Garden Agency scaled through its third reading.
