Following Enzo Maresca’s departure to Chelsea, Leicester City has been searching for a new leader and has chosen the experienced Welshman. Cooper, 44, previously managed Nottingham Forest (2021-2023) and Swansea City (2019-2021).

On June 30, 2024, Cooper signed a three-year deal with Leicester City, keeping him at the club until June 30, 2027.

Cooper expressed his enthusiasm: “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s first-team manager. This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and look forward to achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”

Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha commented: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to Leicester City. His vision for the team, including his ability to develop players and implement a dynamic style of play, aligns with our aspirations for the club. As a leader, he will build on the strong relationship between our fans and our team, vital for re-establishing the club in the Premier League.”
