As part of it’s ongoing
Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, the Nigerian Navy has inaugurated the Kokori Progress Union Secretariat in Kokori Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta.
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla inaugurated the project on Tuesday amid funfair.
In his address of welcome, Ogalla said that the intervention scheme was introduced in 2024 to facilitate the attainment of the re-invigorated Nigerian Navy’s civil-military cooperations’ mandate and to contribute to the ongoing Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by Rear Adm. Oluwole Fadeyi, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara, Delta State, Ogalla said that the project comprised an office complex which consist of four offices, installation of borehole and overhead water tank and construction of perimeter fence.
The naval chief added that the projects were
avenues for the Nigerian Navy to honor its accomplished senior officers and an indication that beyond physically securing lives and properties, the Navy was committed to serving the interests of Nigerians through other ways.
“The project, undertaken by an illustrious son of
Kokori Inland Community, Rear Adm. Monday Unurhiere is yet another watershed in the Nigerian Navy’s civil-military cooperation annals,” he said.
Ogalla acknowledged the massive support from the community and Delta Government from the commencement of the project till completion.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the facilities responsibly so that they would endure the test of time.
The naval chief also urged the community and Delta State to continue to
collaborate with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies in keeping with the tenets of civil-military cooperation, “as we eliminate threats to our collective well-being”.
Also speaking, Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta commended the Nigerian Navy and described the project as a “security statement”.
The governor was represented by Mr Darlington Ijeh, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.
“I believe in the Nigerian Navy and it’s prompt response to social responsibility at all levels, such as the projects we are inaugurating today.
“We are living at a time when society is just being challenged with insecurity and drugs abuse. The state government has therefore, partner the law enforcement agencies to make the society a safe haven,” he said.
Oborevwori urged the residents of Kokori Community to see Rear Adm. Unurhiere as a role model and aspired to be like him.
Earlier in his remark, the project facilitator, Rear Adm. Unurhiere, said that the scheme was designed to specifically honour Rear Admirals who have served the Navy for over three decades by affording them opportunity to give back to communities of their choice.
“Once the decision was reached that a secretariat for the Kokori Progress Union was a priority project for my community, the CNS endorsed our proposal
“The rest as it is often said is history, the culmination of which we are witnessing today,” he said.
Unurhiere thanked the CNS for his visionary thinking and approval of the proposal to construct the secretariat.
Mr Joseph Agute, the President-General of Kokori kingdom, on behalf of the community, thanked the Nigerian Navy for the gesture and promised judicious use of the secretariat.
In attendance were: Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, the Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta and other security personnel, traditional rulers and community residents.
