Dr. Adesuwa Agbontaen, the newly inaugurated President of the Rotary Club in Asokoro, Abuja, has pledged support for a range of humanitarian endeavors, including funding cataract surgeries and addressing maternal mortality in Abuja. The commitment was announced during his investiture ceremony as the 23rd President of the club, held in Abuja on Sunday.

The Rotary Club Abuja is poised to raise N27 million to execute a diverse portfolio of 50 projects aimed at improving society and uplifting humanity. Dr. Agbontaen underscored the club’s dedication to these causes and its eagerness to exceed its planned projects.

Among the club’s focal initiatives is the provision of free cataract surgeries for Abuja residents, demonstrating their dedication to healthcare. They are also committed to addressing maternal and child health, aligning with the Rotary organization’s seven areas of focus. This includes promoting breastfeeding, providing essential materials for expectant mothers, and covering hospital bills.

In her outgoing tenure, Ms. Ebele Israel-Ezezue, the previous President of the club, successfully completed 46 projects. These included planting 4,200 flowers as part of the polio eradication campaign, offering scholarships to 50 pupils, and conducting free hepatitis screenings for 104 individuals, among other endeavors. She encouraged the incoming President to maintain this exemplary work.

Mr. Adelana Olamilekan, the Chairman of the ceremony, urged all Nigerians and corporate organizations to embrace the practice of giving back to society. This call to action highlights the collective responsibility to support and uplift communities for a brighter future.
