Governor Siminalayi Fubara has emphasized the need for constructive cooperation between Rivers and Bayelsa States, urging a resolution to potential legal disputes over jointly owned properties. During a New Year’s visit on Wednesday, Governor Fubara, accompanied by prominent leaders from Rivers, met with Governor Douye Diri at his residence in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to working collaboratively with his Bayelsa counterpart to overcome obstacles hindering positive synergy between the two states, fostering mutual cooperation and development.

The purpose of the visit, as Governor Fubara outlined, was not merely ceremonial but aimed at initiating a unification meeting. He highlighted the shared ownership of various assets between Rivers and Bayelsa, stressing the importance of resolving any outstanding issues for the collective progress of both states.

Acknowledging the unprecedented nature of such collaboration, Governor Fubara urged both states to seek amicable solutions to any existing challenges, fostering an environment conducive to growth.

He remarked, “I have always said that we cannot attain development in the face of a crisis. We cannot help one another in a situation of anarchy. Peace is the major ingredient for development.” The visit signals a new dawn for inter-state cooperation, emphasizing the significance of unity for the advancement and prosperity of both Rivers and Bayelsa.
