    Residents flee homes, count loses as flood destroys millions in Anambra Community

    Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in a ravaging flood at Amudo-Umuchi village, Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.

    Among the property lost to the flood included food stuff, electronics, livestock and documents.

    Residents were seen in their numbers sweeping out water from their homes, while some of the affected families sought shelter in close-by churches.

    Some of the victims who spoke to reporters blamed the deluge on slow pace of work by the contracting firm handling the Ekwulobia Flyover and road projects.

    Ndubuisi Ezenwankwo and his brother Chikezie said, “The flood was caused by the slow pace of the contracting firm handling the Ekwulobia Flyover and road projects to complete the construction of drainages on the road.

    “We had approached the firm before the rains came but nobody listened to us.”

    Another resident, Mrs Celina Ezenwankwo who praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the massive road construction in the area, condemned the construction firm for its neglect that caused them huge losses, forcing them to relocate.

    Public Relations officer of the company handling the project, Mr. Jonas Ezeobi admitted that the residents made complaints about the blockage but described it as necessary in view of the ongoing work in the new drainage system.
