    Published on

The Nigerian Army’s headquarters in Ohafia, Abia State, conducted a raid on a baby factory and rescued 21 pregnant teenagers. Two babies, a boy and a girl, were also rescued. The raid led to the arrest of a 34-year-old chef named Katherine Oyechi Ngwanma, while the owner of the facility managed to escape.

The baby factory, known as Nma Charity Home, was allegedly operated by Mrs. Nma Achumba near Umunkpeyi in Isiala Ngwa South local government area. The facility was registered as a Charity Home with the Abia Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Previous raids on the facility had occurred, but the owner and the pregnant teenagers had managed to evade arrest.

The recent raid was conducted based on a tip-off received by the Nigerian Army. The rescued pregnant teenagers have been handed over to the State Government. The statement from the 14 Brigade also mentioned the discovery of items such as a generator, a stretcher, a gas cylinder, food items, and soup ingredients at the baby factory.

The whereabouts of the owner, Mrs. Achumba, are currently unknown, but efforts are underway to apprehend her. The State Government has confirmed that the teenage girls are in its custody.

Baby factories are illicit facilities where women are impregnated and their babies sold illegally. These operations often involve human trafficking, child exploitation, and other criminal activities. The Nigerian government and security agencies are committed to combating this form of exploitation and protecting the vulnerable individuals involved
