Reactions from Tobi Amusan After Breaking New Diamond League Record

    Published on

Tobi Amusan, the sprint queen of Nigeria, shocked the athletic community on Sunday by setting a new meet record of 12.45 seconds and sweeping to victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League.

After a rough start to her season, Tobi Amusan, the 2022 world champion and world record holder, made a spectacular comeback with her thrilling performance, shattering the previous record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018.

After her victory, Amusan remarked, “It’s been a bit of a rough season for me.” However, I remained focused, had faith in God, trusted the process, and worked hard. I really wanted to run a clean race when I came out here today. To be honest, I have no idea what I did. Glory to God, I simply knew I was running.

From the beginning, Amusan controlled the race, winning by charging ahead of a field of competitors. Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland finished third in 12.69 seconds, followed by Nadine Visser of the Netherlands in second place with a time of 12.67 seconds.

Many of the athletes set season and personal records while competing in the perfect wind conditions of +1.2 m/s.

Tobi Amusan credited modifications to her training regimen for her comeback.

“I realized I needed to return to proper hurdles drills after the first two Diamond League meetings,” she said. “I’ve also increased my sprint work, and I’ve already noticed a difference after just two weeks.”

Amusan stated that she will take some time to rest and recuperate before continuing her preparations for the upcoming Grand Prix event in Jamaica.

She stated, “I’ll be back on the track after I take a little break.”
