    ABU VC Meets NELFUND Boss to Boost Student Loan Access

    The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, at the Fund’s headquarters in Abuja.

    The Vice Chancellor was received by the NELFUND boss alongside key departmental heads, in a meeting that highlighted the growing collaboration between tertiary institutions and the Fund in expanding access to education financing in Nigeria.

    Discussions during the visit centered on strengthening institutional partnerships, particularly in the areas of student loan research and data management, to ensure more efficient and timely disbursement of loans to eligible students.

    Both parties stressed the importance of accurate student data, robust verification processes, and sustained engagement between universities and the Fund as critical factors for seamless loan administration.

    The meeting also explored strategies to enhance awareness and participation in the student loan scheme within the university community, with a focus on increasing student enrollment into the programme at Ahmadu Bello University.

    Speaking during the visit, Mr. Sawyerr reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to partnering with institutions nationwide to eliminate financial barriers to higher education.

    In his remarks, Prof. Ahmed commended the Fund’s efforts and pledged the university’s continued support to ensure the successful implementation of the student loan initiative.

    The visit marks another step toward deepening cooperation between NELFUND and higher institutions in promoting inclusive and sustainable access to education across Nigeria.
