The Police Service Commission (PSC) has recently approved the promotion of 5718 senior Police Officers across various cadres of the Force. This includes the promotion of twelve Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), nineteen Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners, and twenty-one Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners.

In a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head Press and Public Relations on Thursday. The promotion list includes the elevation of thirty-three Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners, 265 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents, and fifty-nine Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents. Furthermore, 4750 Assistant Superintendents and 146 Assistant Superintendents who were previously omitted during the May 2022 promotion exercise have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendents.

In the Specialist cadre, the Commission has approved the promotion of two Assistant Commissioners of Police, one from the Airwing and the other from the Forensic department, to the rank of Deputy Commissioners. Additionally, forty-seven CSPs, including 23 Medical Doctors and 24 Veterinary Doctors, have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Arase, has called upon the newly promoted officers to embrace a new policing culture that prioritizes a people-friendly approach, respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, and an indomitable fighting spirit to effectively deal with social disorders.

He cautioned against involving themselves in civil matters or fabricating false allegations against the public, as such conduct would undermine their credibility and hinder the acquisition of valuable information when addressing internal security issues.

Dr. Arase commended the Inspector General of Police for collaborating with the Commission to ensure that the promotions have permeated all departments of the Force.

He expressed hope that this gesture would motivate the workforce to give their best in combating crimes and criminality. Dr. Arase reminded the officers that with benefits come responsibilities, and the promotion should serve as a motivation to ignite their indomitable fighting spirit, which the Police have been known for throughout the years.

While advocating for improved welfare for the officers, Dr. Arase emphasized the importance of conducting themselves within the established laws and rules guiding the Police Force. He assured the officers that the Commission’s priority is their well-being and safety.

The promotion list includes distinguished officers such as Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji, CP Niger State; CP Patrick Ogon Edung, CP Courses Police Academy Wudil Kano; CP Badru Banji Lawal; Deputy Commandant, Police Academy Kano; CP Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka; CP Benue State; CP Suleiman Yusuf; CP Taraba State; CP Idowu Owohunwa; CP Lagos State and CP Rhoda Adetutu Olofu; CP PAP Western Ports Lagos, among others.

The PSC Chairman expressed his wishes for God’s protection for the officers as they carry out their policing duties and assured them that their interests will be of paramount importance to the Commission.

The Police Service Commission congratulates all the promoted officers and encourages them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their service to the nation.
