Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone C has called on Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi to prioritize completion of federal road projects in the South East, particularly as rainy season intensifies.
The body said the call has become necessary to ensure safety of motorists plying the roads.
In a communique issued by the Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) Zone C, the group praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his notable infrastructural development efforts.
It also lauded his proactive stance on security through launch of the Agu Na Eche Mba security outfit, which has significantly improved safety across the state.
NAWOJ urged other governors in Southeast region to intensify security measures to combat crime and insecurity and to ensure peaceful environment for all residents.
The meeting, held in Awka with the theme, “Humanity and Relationship Management as It Relates to Zone C”, was presided over by the National Vice President of Zone C, Comrade Amaka Agbo.
The communique co-signed by Zonal Secretary, Zone C, Comrade Doris Chioma Alex, reads, “Following a comprehensive review of activities, programmes, challenges, achievements, and the way forward, the ZEC resolved as follows:
“ZEC commends Chief Mrs. Nonye Soludo, First Lady of Anambra State, for graciously hosting the meeting and for her unwavering commitment to journalism, women empowerment, and promotion of healthy living.
“The Committee applauds Governor Charles Soludo for his notable infrastructural development efforts and his proactive stance on security through the launch of the Agu Na Eche Mba security outfit, which has significantly improved safety across the state.
“ZEC urges other governors in the South East region to intensify security measures to combat crime and insecurity, and to ensure a peaceful environment for all residents.
“ZEC reaffirms that, based on established precedent and practice within both the NUJ and NAWOJ, bye-elections to fill leadership vacancies are to be conducted by Congress at the state level.
“ZEC emphasizes the need to uphold the traditions, norms, and established practices within the Union and Association for the sake of integrity, continuity, and fairness.
“The Committee calls on Minister of Works, David Umahi, to prioritize the completion of federal road projects in the South East, particularly as the rainy season intensifies, to ensure the safety of road users.
“ZEC expresses concern over delays in the justice system concerning GBV cases and urges the judiciary to expedite trials and deliver justice promptly.
“The Committee commends the five South East Governors for the swift implementation of their respective State Health Insurance Schemes, thereby improving access to healthcare.
“ZEC encourages state governments to expand healthcare services to accommodate more women and children and calls on states yet to implement health insurance schemes to do so without delay.
“The Committee urges youths in the region to abstain from illicit drug use and alcohol abuse, highlighting the harmful consequences on their health, future, and societal wellbeing.”
